Friends Through Thick and Thin

I love the song in the video, both for what it expresses in the original musical and for the story it tells with the images from one of my favourite tv shows, The West Wing.

It reminds me that we meet people all the time. Some people will come in to our lives and leave just as quickly, others will stay, they will make their home in our heart, sometimes they are annoying and won't leave even when you try to evict them. But what I have realised over the years is that those who stay. Those who refuse to be evicted, even when you try your damdest to get rid of them. Those people, they are the ones who are worth keeping around. They are the ones who will support you when times are tough. They are the ones who will carry you when you feel as if you cannot take another step. They are the ones who will give you shelter when you badly need it. They are the ones who are a safe harbour when the world around you is a storm. I have been very fortunate in my life to some how collect around me a group of people like that. Friends who have taken me in when I have needed a place to stay. Friends whom I know I can call at any hour of the day and they will listen. Friends whose floor I can sleep on when my boyfriend has broken up with me (and who when they go to class wake me up and tell me to crawl in to their bed). These are all people who have changed me in some way. People who have, inadvertantly, made me, well me. People who have changed me, for the better.
